In addition to becoming a member of the Tacoma Food Co-op, we have numerous volunteer opportunities available for members of the greater Tacoma community. We are currently looking for volunteers for the following very important roles:
* Board members: we currently have two open positions on the Board of Directors. The Board meets twice a month for 2-3 hours each meeting. * Volunteer coordinator: we are seeking someone who would like to be in charge of coordinating all our volunteers (including the ones listed here). This is a relatively big role and we would hope this person would either be a Board member or be willing to attend Board meetings twice a month. This role entails screening and training new volunteers, maintaining a database and up-to-date contact information for volunteers, maintaining a calendar of upcoming events for which we will need volunteers, etc. If you are interested in becoming our volunteer coordinator, please contact Amber Englund at amber@tacomafoodcoop.com
* Summer 2010 Farmers' Markets events coordinators (3 positions): we are currently seeking 3 organized and energetic individuals to be the point person for volunteers who sign up to be our representatives at the Tacoma Food Co-op table at events and farmers' markets this summer. We would ideally like one person to organize the volunteers for the Tuesday (6th Ave.) and Thursday (downtown) markets, another person to organize the volunteers for the Saturday (Proctor) and Sunday (south Tacoma) markets, and a third person to organize the volunteers for other events such as having a presence at Terries Berries, the Food on Film events at Univ. of Puget Sound, and other community events. * Outreach volunteers to table at events: We are seeking quite a few people to volunteer to be our representative at the summer events and farmers' markets. This role would involve setting up a table at the event, sitting at the table and answering questions about the Tacoma Food Co-op, encouraging community members to join the co-op, and other general outreach activities at these events. We provide all the materials you would need and ideally we would have multiple people at each event so no one is at the table alone. * Block party event planning team members: We are planning an end-of-the summer or early fall block party to replace our annual benefit event (previously held at People's Park and Wright Park) and are looking for volunteers to help make that event a reality. * Newsletter editor: We are looking for a creative and dependable person to be responsible for putting together a seasonal newsletter to all co-op members. This person would not be solely responsible for content - Board members and other co-op members can help create content - rather would be responsible for the design and layout and getting the newsletter ready to get sent out. * Member benefits task force members: We are looking for a few volunteers to serve on a brainstorming task force to advise the Board on the issue of member benefits. This task force would research the member benefits (e.g., discounts, newsletters, gifts, dividends, etc.) offered by other co-ops and make a recommendation to the Board regarding what package we should offer. * Webmaster: As you know, we have a website up and running with lots of good content and features. We are looking for someone to serve as our webmaster who can do the behind the scenes maintenance the website regularly needs.
